Credit report errors are not easy to repair

by Adam on September 25, 2006

Hey all-

Hope you’re having a good week.

It’s a beautiful day here in San Antonio, especially after the severe thunderstorm we had this weekend.

Anyways, I came across this article and wanted to share it with you.

It details how much trouble this one woman is having getting an error off her credit report. She only found out about it because she was trying to buying a home and her credit score was lower than she thought it should be. What she found was an outstanding medical bill of $62 from 2001.

She had a major mess on her hands dealing with the collection agency and the original biller and the credit reporting agency.

The problem was she had paid the bill and even had a letter saying it was paid.

The moral of the story is to check your credit report regularly that way you won’t be surprised when you go to make a major purchase when they need to check your credit. When you check your record often you’ll be able to dispute incorrect items beforehand instead of messing with it while you’re looking for a new house or car. There’s enough to worry about buying a house.

You can get a copy of your report free every year at www.annualcreditreport.com
If you’ve already checked it this year and want to get another report go here to get a free copy of your credit report and score. This is a trial offer so make sure to cancel before the trial is over to avoid being charged.

It won’t “help” your interest rate, either. You can order a free credit report once a year at www.annualcreditreport.com or by calling 877-322-8228.
