Troubleshooters: Credit Report Mistakes – WWAY NewsChannel 3

This story highlights one problem that can happen to anyone, and the only way you’re going to know about it is if you keep an eye on your credit report and score.

The problem was that two consumers’ credit information was merged into one as a result of having similar names. One of them had good credit and the other had 10s of thousands in unpaid debts. I’m sure you can see where this is going.

When the good credit guy went to get a mortgage the rate was in the double digits, 12%! And his score was very low and the lender could not explain why.

It took a lot of work and a call to the news station to get it resolved.

The credit agency acknowledge that it can make mistakes. The onus is on us to find out about these problems before they become a major headache and cost us thousands of dollars in interest charges due to an inaccurate credit report.
